HISS and a ROAR has released a new sound library featuring a collection of percussive hits created with a variety of metal springs. With just over 10GB of content, Spring Impacts contains 146 Wav files (24bit/96kHz).
The springs range from very short, small diameter (130mm x 15mm) through to very long (2800mm x20mm) with decay up to 25 seconds. Hits were first performed with a hard percussion mallet, with full free sustain, then dampened, and then very dampened – the latter providing tight meaty solid metal impacts.
To add interesting pitch, I also captured hits with a metal bridge attached to the spring. These work almost like a cross between a guitar bridge and a tongue drum – the ‘prongs’ generating pitch, which is transmitted into the spring. Struck with a hard mallet, they ring out beautifully but with a soft mallet they instantly created unique subtle stings.
SD071 Spring Impacts is available at a 33% intro discount, priced $53 USD instead of $79 USD until February 1st, 2025.
