Imaginando has announced an update to its software that lets users create visuals that react to MIDI and audio with ease. Version 2.1 of VS Visual Synthesizer comes with various new features and improvements, as well as VS 2 for iPad.
Since the release of VS 2 September last year, we have worked constantly on improving the performance and experience, actively listening to your feedback and requests. Many of you have asked us when the iOS version would be available and we are now thrilled to announce VS 2 for iPad.
This is not a stripped down version of the desktop application, but the same VS 2, with all its functionalities and features, in your iPad. You can even expect the same UI layout, so you won’t need to learn anything new. As there’s so much to VS 2’s interface, we’ve decided to leave the iPhone version aside for now, at least until we find a way to provide an experience at the same level.
Apart from the iPad release, VS 2.1 greatly improves the graphics engine, moving from OpenGL to Metal on macOS/iOS and DirectX on Windows, allowing a more future-proof architecture and compatibility with the latest graphic cards hardware and drivers.
Other changes in VS 2.1 include:
- Increased performance when using render output, making some more complex patches much smoother and more performant. On Windows systems, users have reported the existence of visual glitches on some systems, which should not be fixed.
- The ability to use some dedicated hardware MIDI controllers to control VS 2, including layer select, enable, alpha, solo and mute controls. Supported controllers include APC Mini, APC Key (MK1 and MK2), APC40 mk2, NanoKontrol Studio, and Launch Control XL.
- New material: Image Folder.
- Setting to introduce visual latency up to 500ms.
- Setting to start / stop Playlist with the host DAW’s transport.
- Support for saving and loading Playlists.
- Hue shift manipulation on image, video, live input and render output materials.
- A new a note list filter for layer MIDI input.
- Option to map the tempo ‘Tap’ button to MIDI.
- Ability to copy and paste layers between presets.
The update is free for existing VS 2 users, and new customers can purchase VS 2 for desktop for 129 USD/EUR. Use coupon code REKKERD at the checkout to receive a 30% discount on a purchase at the Imaginando store.
VS 2 for iPad is priced at 49.99 USD/EUR at the App Store, with a 20% discount offered until the April 1st, 2026. Existing VS 1 owners can take advantage of the new App Store Imaginando VS Bundle to purchase VS 2 at a discounted price.
