Impact Soundworks has introduced the latest Kontakt Player-powered instrument in the acclaimed Shreddage series of virtual electric guitars and basses. Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar samples a Danelectro electric sitar, an instrument originally developed in the 1960s that plays like a standard 6-string electric guitar but sounds similar to a traditional Indian sitar.
The electric sitar’s characteristic sound comes from two main components: a unique buzz bridge and a set of resonating harp strings that emulate the sympathetic strings of a traditional sitar. Great care has been taken to capture the instrument’s distinctive tone with all crucial guitar articulations and generous round robins. The harp strings can be plucked separately, used for sympathetic resonance, or left off, as needed.
Generations of musicians have featured the electric sitar in their music, as wide-reaching as Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Redbone, Tom Petty, Yes, The Mission, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Van Halen, Lenny Kravitz, Alice in Chains, and Metallica. Its bright, buzzy sound cuts through the mix and makes it ideal for leads and melodies in classic rock, soul, R&B, jazz, fusion, Motown, and even metal.
“We’re so glad to bring this unique instrument to the Shreddage 3 line,” says Andrew Aversa, founder and CEO of Impact Soundworks. “It’s a real joy every time I get to sit down with it! I hope users will find it as inspiring and fun to play as I do.”
Shreddage 3 Electro Sitar is available to purchase for $149 USD. Some customers may qualify for crossgrade discounts, which can be found by accessing “Your Offers” within their ISW accounts.
