Loopmasters, the sample label, soundware distributor and operator of Loopcloud, returns to its roots with a re-acquisition by its founder and ex owner, Matt Pelling.
The company was originally acquired from Pelling by Beatport in 2020. Since then, Matt has been active as a director of Rhodes Music Group, as well as being involved in other projects throughout the industry. Below is his official statement on the re-acquisition:
“Since the sale in 2020, I’ve had the time and space to start a family and work on lots of interesting projects, but I always missed what I had built with Loopmasters and Loopcloud. I’ve been in the sampling industry since 1996, so I’ve seen its growth from CD-ROMs through digital distribution and subscription services.
Today’s technological landscape has only inspired me more. Working on multiple projects, I’ve been able to contrast making handcrafted musical instruments at Rhodes with modern AI-assisted software. It turns out there’s a commonality when it comes to creating music tools that stand the test of time. Going back to Loopmasters and Loopcloud, and keeping a small team of dedicated people, I’m looking forward to writing the next chapter while keeping everything that made these tools great in the first place.”
Plugin Boutique, the music software reseller and manufacturer, which was also acquired as part of the 2020 deal, will remain part of The Beatport Group alongside AmpSuite, LabelRadar and other Beatport Group companies.
“While it was hard to let go of the amazing Loopmasters business and its incredible employees, the fact that Matt Pelling and team are providing the new home with lots of growth potential seems a fitting result”, commented Robb McDaniels, Beatport’s Chairman and CEO. “I am 100% confident that Matt will continue to lead the business into exciting new, profitable areas for many years to come, and we wish him the best of luck”, continued McDaniels.
