Martinic has announced the an open beta which brings GUI scaling and installer enhancements.
In 2022, Martinic introduced custom GUI scaling to the Windows installer alongside Retina (HiDPI) support on macOS. While Windows provides native OS-level scaling, macOS does not. This means that implementing GUI scaling for plugins on macOS would require shipping multiple image sets in every resolution or relying on CPU-heavy scaling libraries. Both options result in larger plugin sizes and higher CPU usage.
Since Martinic plugins already support Retina, they look crisp on all Retina displays. However, musicians using non-Retina displays were facing a different issue: plugin GUIs appeared too small when Retina was disabled.
To solve this, Martinic has added a brand-new “GUI Scale 200%” mode for non-Retina users. This option makes plugin interfaces easier to read and use on standard-resolution monitors. The trade-off is that if this mode is enabled on a Retina display, the plugin GUI will appear larger than intended. After reviewing user feedback, Martinic decided the benefits for non-Retina setups outweighed this drawback.
Martinic is rolling out this feature for the first time in the Martinic Kee Bass plugin:
- New GUI Scale 200% mode for non-Retina displays.
- Native installer language support for Korean, Chinese, and Japanese (Windows & macOS).
- General performance improvements across the plugin.
The public beta now available to try, and those who share the release with two friends will receive the Martinic AX Chorus plugin for free.
