Mercuriall Audio has announced an update to its Ampbox amp modeling plugin and standalone software for Windows and macOS. Version 1.8 comes with an updated Spark tube amplifier and a free Spearion overdrive effect.
The update is the result of Mercuriall Audio’s more than 10 years of experience in tube amp modeling. Previously, Spark was available as a separate product, but now it is included in Ampbox with all its features and a set of effects.
The update also includes a new free Spearion overdrive based on the Klon Centaur scheme. It pairs well with the JCM800 and other Ampbox amplifiers.
The new Spark as part of Ampbox includes:
- Marshall JCM800-based amplifier with vintage tubes in Svetlana’s EL34 power amplifier (SVEL34) and MOJOTONE JCM800 HTS-7256 output transformer
- Switchable power amplifier feedback circuit mode with increased BASS resonance depth and smoothed high frequencies; EL34EH pentodes are used in this configuration
- Preamp mod #34 and #34, designed by Frank Levi
- Preamp tubes selection: 12AX7JJ or 12AX7WC
- A large number of original presets of musicians and sound engineers are available for Spark, including presets from Steve Stevens (Billy Idol, Michael Jackson and many others).
Note: Previously, the old Spark included an AFD amplifier (Slash model) based on mods #34 and #36. In the new version, Mercuriall Audio has reproduced the original schemes of these mods.
The new Spearion overdrive is based on the SPICE simulation of the original Klon Centaur circuit with 1N34A germanium diodes. The specifics of the pedal allow you to work in the range from booster to overdrive.
The new Spark is available to purchase for the intro price of $79.99 USD (regular $99.99 USD). All users of the old Spark version receive the updated Spark as part of Ampbox for free.
