Loopmasters Mistabishi - Drum and bass Vol 4

I am a big fan of drum of bass music, but I didn’t actually know about Mistabishi until Loopmasters released its fourth sample library in the Drum and Bass series.

Loopmasters in conjunction with Hospital Records are proud to present Drum and Bass vol4, a huge collection off royalty free drum and bass samples from deep within the studio of Mistabishi, a producer whose sound and production techniques are second to none.

Mistabishi (James Pullen) released his first album “Drop” earlier this year with Hospital Records. This album includes the track Printer Jam (YouTube) in which James shows he likes using unconventional sounds in his music.

He also caused some controversy by faking a DJ-set recently, and although that might be quite lame, it does not mean the guy can’t produce good music or sample libraries.

Mistabishi Drum and Bass vol 4 includes lots of loops and samples. Here’s the info from the product page.

Mistabishi – Drum and Bass vol 4 features

  • 800MB, 24Bit Samples.
  • 55 huge Basslines, 15 Breaks FX Loops, 31 Breaks, 6 Build Up Loops, 14 Hi Hat Loops, 10 Percussion Loops, 8 Drum Rolls, 6 Shuffle Loops, 18 Guitar Loops, 23 Synth and Pad Loops, 14 Bass Hits, 7 FX Samples, 2 Guitar Stabs, 18 Pad Hits, 50 Single Drum Samples.
  • 36 patches ready to play patches for all the main soft samplers.

The loops are divided in subfolders — bass, drum with more subfolders, guitar, and synth & pad, as are the single samples (bass, drum, fx, pad) which are used in the sampler patches, of which I could only find 33 instead of the 36 mentioned on the product page.

Here’s a demo mp3 featuring sounds from the library (some more audio demos are available from the Loopmasters product page).

So what do I think?

Product: Mistabishi – Drum and Bass vol 4 by Loopmasters
Format: 24bit samples (Ableton Live 7+, Reason 4 Refill, Apple Loops, ZIP (main) package)
Price: £24.95 GBP

I first checked the bass loops folder which includes lots of sick stuff. Great filtered action and aggressive sounds.

The selection of beats is OK. Nothing too special (except the 15 effected beats if you’re into that) and not that many either. Out of the 90 loops in the drums folder half of them are build-ups, hihats, percussion and rolls. The guitar loops are alright. I could see myself use some of the funky wah-wah sounds, but the others just aren’t my cup of tea.

The last folder in this pack is my favorite, melodic synth & pad loops. These are the type of sounds I would expect from a liquid funk package, catchy house sounds.

Overall, Mistabishi’s Drum and Bass vol 4 is a decent sample pack, with the bass and melodic loops being the main attraction for me. I will be chopping some of those to bits for sure.
