Modalics has announced an update to its virtual instrument designed to transform traditional beat making into an immersive journey of creativity and experimentation.
Version 1.6 of Beat Scholar comes with a new dark mode, new features, improved performance, and some fixes.

- Dark Mode: Complete UI overhaul with a sleek dark theme, accessible from the preset menu.
- MIDI Display Options: Choose how MIDI notes are displayed — Middle C, note names, and sharps/flats.
- DAW MIDI Map Reporting: Beat Scholar now reports its MIDI map to supported DAWs (Bitwig, Cubase, FL Studio, Reaper).
- Removed DC offset from the distortion module.
- Fixed missing “note off” messages when using finger drumming and custom MIDI maps.
- Fixed multi-out routing when only some outputs are mapped.
- Fixed MIDI channel routing in “Any” mode.
- Fixed an issue where Undo could change the window size.
- Fixed clip export issues caused by special characters in pattern names (e.g., Mike Malyan presets).
- Lowered CPU usage for reverb effects (powered by ChowDSP).
- Improved preset browsing speed.
- Various UI tweaks and improvements for a smoother user experience.
Available in VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats and as standalone software for Windows and Mac, Beat Scholar is on sale for $59 USD instead of $99 USD as part of a Spring Sale promotion.
