Morphulus has announced an update to its modular multi-effect processor featuring 23 studio-quality effects. Version 1.3.1 of Spectrus brings click-free reverbs, slot selection, in-app help, and a metering overhaul
Spectrus 1.3.1 is a quality-and-polish release. The headline: all 10 reverbs are now click-free when you sweep knobs or re-roll the tail with Randomize/Morph. New slot selection lets you send a single-effect preset to one slot, an in-app Quick Start overlay explains the workflow, and the signal-flow strip and Master VU got a metering overhaul. Plus a new Knee control and gain-reduction meters on the Ducker, a modulation waveform selector on Plate Reverb, and exact copy-and-paste reverb seeds.
Changes in Spectrus v1.3.1
- New: Slot selection — send a single-effect preset to one slot — Click a slot’s box in the signal-flow strip to select it; its column outlines in that module’s colour. Single-effect preset loads (the browser and the prev/next arrows) then land in that slot only, leaving your other slots, the master, and global settings untouched. It’s the positive counterpart to the slot Lock: Lock keeps a slot from being overwritten, Selection sends the next load to it. Multi-effect (full-rack) presets and Random Mix ignore the selection and behave as before. Your selection is remembered when you reopen the editor.
- New: In-app Quick Start help — Empty slots now show a small “?” that opens a built-in Quick Start overlay, explaining the slot / preset / lock workflow right inside the plugin instead of sending you to the manual.
- Improved: Reverbs no longer click or zipper on knob moves or Randomize/Morph — A smoothing pass across all 10 reverbs. Sweeping High Cut, Size, Character, or Diffusion — and pressing Randomize or Morph — could previously produce an audible click or zipper as the reverb re-rolled its internal tail. Those transitions now glide, and Randomize/Morph cross-fade (“wash”) into the new tail instead of cutting to it. The reverbs sound identical once settled; only the artifacts during the move are gone.
- Improved: Per-slot input/output meters + redesigned Master VU — The signal-flow strip now shows a routed-input level (amber) and an output level (cyan) on every slot, so you can watch signal move through the rack at a glance. The Master VU was redrawn as a wider, open-face vintage meter with accurate dB tick marks across its full range and a clearly marked danger line.
- Improved: Ducker — Knee control and gain-reduction meters — The Ducker gains a Knee control in Level mode, setting how gradually ducking engages above the threshold (low = snappy and hard, high = soft and program-dependent). Live gain-reduction meters now sit beside the Amount and Spectral knobs on every slot and on the Master, so you can see exactly how much the ducker is pulling.
- Improved: Plate Reverb modulation waveform selector — New Mod Type control on Plate (None / Sine / Triangle / Square / Saw / Random) adds movement and gentle chorusing to the plate tail, with per-delay-line proportional depth so the short and long lines move musically rather than warbling. Defaults to None, so existing Plate patches load unchanged.
- Improved: Shimmer — new Scatter control — A new Scatter knob cross-mixes Shimmer’s internal delay lines into a denser, fuller wash. At 0 you get the original Shimmer; turn it up for a lusher, more diffuse tail with the stereo width preserved. Defaults to 0, so existing Shimmer patches load unchanged.
- Improved: Tape Delay — new Motor control — A new Motor knob sets how quickly the tape transport slews to a new delay time when you move Delay Time or change the sync division. Short settings snap to the new time; longer settings give a slow, audible repitch sweep as the tape changes speed — the classic warped-tape pitch dive.
- Fix: Reverb seeds now copy and paste exactly — Seed readouts displayed a rounded value, so copying a seed and typing it back could give you a slightly different tail. Seeds now show as an exact 8-character hex token that round-trips perfectly — copy it down, type it back, and you get the same tail every time.
Available for Windows, macOS and Linux in VST3, AU, LV2 and CLAP plugin formats, the Pro version of Spectrus is on sale for $29.40 USD for a limited time (regular $49 USD). A free version with some limitations is available to try the plugin.
