Christophe Kalkau has announced the release of a desktop app that visualizes MIDI Polyphonic Expression in real time. MPE Insight lets you plug in any MPE controller and see exactly what it’s sending: per-note pitch bend, pressure/aftertouch and expression, with multiple views, recording and a built-in MIDI monitor.
Every finger sends its own continuous stream — pressure, pitch, slide, timbre. MPE Insight turns that data into visual architecture the moment you play.
MPE Insight features
- Switch the look, not the data: Bars, rings, particles, a flythrough tunnel, kaleidoscope, contour, spider web, DNA helix and more — switch engine profiles fluidly without disrupting the underlying gesture data stream.
- Play it with no controller: A built-in Demo Mode drives every module with simulated MPE — pitch bend, pressure, aftertouch, CCs — so you can explore the whole system and every Aura style before you plug anything in.
- Every note, its own thread: MPE gives each finger its own channel. The system tracks polyphonic data per note — two fingers bending opposite ways move independent engine parameters simultaneously.
- Color is data, not decoration: Pick input pairs and watch velocity, pressure, and timbre blend between them live across structural engine transformations — never a fixed palette.
- Eight modules, one grid: Aura plus Grand Staff, Note Timeline, Expression Breakdown, MIDI Stream Log, PB/Mod and an on-screen Keyboard — drag, resize and rearrange them freely on a shared canvas, not a fixed dashboard.
- Capture the performance: Record everything — MIDI clock included. The exported file carries the actual played tempo, not a hardcoded placeholder. Take it straight into any DAW.
MPE Insight is currently available as a standalone application for Windows. It is on sale for the launch price of €24.49 EUR until July 11th, 2026 (regular €34.99 EUR). Use coupon code MPEINSIGHT30 at the checkout.
