Orra Audio has announced a paid upgrade to its free Orra Tone Zone tonal curve correction plugin. Following the same core idea, the new plugin compares a mix against the tonal balance of a real finished master in its genre, with a new SCOUT function that plans and applies the correction automatically.
Orra Tone Zone Pro runs SCOUT in 4 steps:
- It listens to a chosen stretch of playback (8 seconds by default, up to 60).
- Plans up to 6 EQ bands against the target.
- Plays the recording back through the real EQ to check and correct the plan against actual audio rather than just theory.
- Then hands the result over as ordinary, further-editable controls.
Needed cuts become plain or dynamic EQ bands depending on whether the problem region’s level comes and goes, while needed boosts run through one of 9 saturation modes (Tube, VCA, British, Tape, Power Tube, Transistor, Diode, Console, Exciter), since a boost that only theoretically hits the target often does less on real material than on paper.
A tonal balance processor for full mixes and masters. It compares your mix with a target curve, the tonal balance of a real finished master in your genre, and brings the mix toward it.
Orra Tone Zone Pro features 60 target curves across 19 genres, each drawn from the busiest 20 seconds of one real finished master. It comes with a dynamic EQ on every band, with an auto threshold following that band’s own average level, auto gain loudness matching (ITU-R BS.1770), range handles, a Delta overlay, and oversampling up to 8x. Owners of the Orra EQ plugin (1.5.0+) can export SCOUT’s 6 bands as a 16-band preset.
Orra Tone Zone Pro for Windows and macOS (VST3, AU and AAX) is priced $10 USD. Tone Zone remains free.
Additionally, the Orra EQ plugin has been updated to version 1.5.0. Priced $49 USD for new customers, the update is free for existing users.
Orra EQ gains Make Room, per-band spectral ducking that listens to a sidechain in up to 48 narrow slices and cuts only where the other track actually sits, at zero latency. Plus Excite, Width, a Dynamic EQ that boosts and lifts, a preset browser, and a reworked interface. It is also what Tone Zone Pro hands its bands to: TO ORRA EQ saves the six bands as an Orra EQ preset, dynamics and saturation included.
