Isotonik Studios has introduced a new Max for Live device designed by Ableton Certified Trainer Noah Pred. Geared for instant inspiration, Pattern Engine combines powerful algorithmic features with performance-friendly interaction design.
Pattern Engine offers unparalleled control with its 16 steps, each of which can be individually manipulated and randomized across five distinct dimensions: Mute (on/off), Pitch, Velocity, Length, and Tie (for monophonic glides). Every parameter can also be locked per step to prevent randomization. Auto-randomization can be applied globally, at adjustable intervals measured in bars, or on a per-parameter basis, with customizable probabilities for each.
Four tempo-syncable LFOs are available to shape pitch across selected steps, creating evolving melodic contours with a variety of waveforms. Each LFO offers per-step control, allowing for modulation intensity, direction, and central transposition offsets.
Outgoing note pitch values can be transposed internally or via incoming MIDI, offering dynamic performance possibilities through real-time input or pre-programmed clips — all within 50 scales and any key. Sequence direction, length, reset, step grid size, and swing are all fully customizable. Plus, the powerful global settings and six playback modes provide flexible interaction with MIDI input, including innovative Gate and Side functions, vintage Trig bank sequencing, or classic arpeggiation.
Available for Ableton Live 10 or higher (Suite or Standard with Max for Live), Pattern Engine is priced £37 GBP / $49 USD.
