APU Software has announced the release of a new standalone application for analyzing music libraries and building harmonically compatible DJ tracklists.
Harmonic DJ distinguishes Ionian, dorian, phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, and aeolian modes rather than stopping at major and minor, then uses that analysis to plan complete transition routes rather than just matching pairs of tracks by key. Generation compares complete routes by improving the weakest accepted transition first, and either fills the requested track count or leaves the current tracklist unchanged.
Harmonic DJ features
- Local Library analysis covering key, BPM, loudness, personal ratings, and retained harmonic evidence, with audio never leaving the user’s computer.
- Mix generation with adjustable track count, tempo policy, allowed keys, and transition profiles, plus locking, exclusions, and regeneration of open slots.
- Gem Finder, for exploring a directed harmonic transition from a chosen incoming key and mode using a piano chord as a harmonic probe.
- Separate incoming and outgoing key evidence per track, comparing a source track’s second half against a destination track’s first half.
- Selectable loudness contours (calibrated-flat, ECMA-418, and two ISO 226 profiles) switchable without rescanning the Library.
- Mix sharing via a public tracklist page showing keys, BPM, and transition strategy, without exposing audio, local paths, or raw analysis.
Harmonic DJ for macOS, Windows, and Linux ships in two editions. The free Community tier comes with unlimited local analysis and a 5-track Tracklist Preview. Pro adds saved Mix documents, exact track counts above five, and the full Gem Finder workflow.
