Whatever comes to you first — a melody, a chord, a line — you start there. Song Cage’s chord palette reads the notes you’ve already written and ranks the chords that fit, weighing voice leading, the chords on either side of the slot, and the progression patterns the song is starting to form. After a few chords it figures out the key and switches the palette to in-key, borrowed, and secondary dominant chords. Click any line of lyrics and rhymes, slant rhymes, and synonyms surface in the sidebar. There’s also Explore — a word-association panel for following thematic chains somewhere unexpected.
