Quietformat has announced the release of a new virtual instrument built from a vintage 1980s toy keyboard. TOYKEY keeps the raw charm, playful tone, and slightly strange character of the original sound, while expanding it into something much more flexible for real-world music production.
Built from a vintage toy keyboard from producer KION’s studio, TOYKEY keeps the raw charm, odd character, and pure tone of the original hardware intact.
With Pitch MPE, 4-layer sound stacking, and built-in effects, TOYKEY goes far beyond what the original instrument could ever do on its own.
It keeps the playful spirit of a toy keyboard, then stretches it into something deeper, wider, and far more expressive.
TOYKEY features
- Vintage toy keyboard character inspired by a dusty little 1980s toy keyboard.
- Pitch MPE for expressive performance, control pitch independently per note.
- 4-layer sound stacking: Organ, String, Clarinet, and Piano. Each layer has independent volume and pan control.
- Expanded sound design workflow with filters, envelopes, modulation, built-in effects, unison, mono, and portamento.
Available in VST3 and AU plugin formats for Windows and macOS, TOYKEY is on sale for the intro price of $39 USD until April 30th, 2026 (regular $69 USD). Prices ex. taxes where applicable.
