Salonebeats has introduced a free key and tempo detection plugin for Windows and macOS (VST3).
SLB Key analyzes audio live on a mixer track. After a few seconds of playback it shows the detected key with its Camelot number and confidence, the relative key, two clickable alternatives, and the tempo with half or double time. Matching keys are highlighted on a Camelot wheel. On pads it reports “No rhythm detected” instead of guessing a BPM. The audio passes through unchanged.
Version 1.2 was retrained on real samples and beats from producers. On 20 real samples it had never heard, the key was right 16 times, up from 6 in version 1.1. It’s strongest on minor keys, which most trap, drill and afro samples are in. Major keys are sometimes shown as their relative minor (Bm instead of D), that’s why SLB Key always shows the relative key right under the result. Tempo on real samples, many of them without drums, was exact 85 % of the time.
The plugin is available as a “pay what you like” download, including free.
