Sample Vault, a new sample browser that can find the right sounds in libraries of any size using abstract descriptions, just released an update with an X-Ray panel that helps you deconstruct any track or sound and find similar parts in your own sample library.
A sample browser that makes recalling samples as easy and fast as possible, Sample Vault extracts information about creators, sample packs, contextual tags and genres, and keeps libraries organized according to the producer’s taste. Besides traditional filtering, it can surface the right sounds by descriptions like “nostalgic, sounds like memory”, “a dark piano loop for the intro”, reducing the time needed for auditioning and browsing.
Some of the features include:
- Time-stretching, pitch-locking, and DAW playback sync.
- Advanced filters for sound characteristics (complexity, noisiness, brightness, etc.).
- Similarity search with semantic, timbre, and band-split modes.
- Map, 2-D plot, circle of fifths view modes.
- Waveform and spectrogram visualizers.
- A step sequencer with the ability to layer sample loops on top.
After spending way too much money, hoarding countless sample packs, and wasting time trying to keep them organized, I realized I had everything I needed all along; I just couldn’t find it. So I set out to create what I always wished I had as a producer, a tool that lets me plainly describe things I’m looking for instead of having to fiddle with filters, click through folders, or manage windows. For me, Sample Vault made production feel fun again. – Wojciech Adamek
Drop any track or loop into the X-Ray and highlight any part of it to find the closest sounds in your own library. Reject/accept samples to fine-tune the results or select timbre mode or band-split mode to narrow down what you’re looking for. Use it to learn what goes into the tracks you like or save parts of longer sounds in your library as samples.
Sample Vault is available as a standalone desktop application for Windows and macOS. It features a free plan that runs everything locally for libraries of unlimited size. Advanced features, like browser access, are available behind a subscription plan. A lifetime purchase option is also available.
