Schulz Audio has announced the release of a new overdrive effect plugin for Windows and macOS.
With every component modeled at the transistor level, Tonebreaker aims to deliver a faithful recreation of the classic British blues overdrive — complete with speaker cabinet and amp room modeling for a fully immersive sound.
From subtle breakup to roaring saturation, Schulz Tonebreaker reacts to your playing style. Clean up with your guitar’s volume knob, dig in for grit, or stack it with other drives — the response is as natural and expressive as the real thing.
Studio-Ready WorkflowDesigned for musicians and producers alike, Schulz Tonebreaker integrates seamlessly into your DAW. With zero-latency processing and efficient CPU usage, it delivers uncompromising tone without slowing down your session too much. A dedicated dual processing mode even runs two simulated hardware units in stereo, preserving the full depth of your stereo signal.
Tonebreaker features
- True circuit simulation: Every resistor, capacitor, transistor, diode and op-amp has been modeled at the component level. The dynamic response, touch sensitivity, and harmonic character all come from the circuit itself — not from approximations or impulse responses.
- Cabinet & room modeling — built in: Tonebreaker ships with integrated speaker cabinet and amp room simulation. You get a mix-ready sound straight out of the plugin. No IR loaders, no routing gymnastics.
- Reacts to your playing: Back off your guitar’s volume and it cleans up. Dig in and it breaks up. Stack it with other drives or use it on its own — the response is dynamic in the same way the hardware is.
- Dual processing mode: Run two simulated hardware units in parallel for stereo processing. This is something the real pedal physically can’t do — and it works on bass, 808s, chords, and vocals just as well as on guitar.
Available in VST3, AU and AAX plugin formats, Tonebreaker is on sale for the launch price of $49 USD for a limited time (regular $89 USD).
