Scrap Brain Audio has announced an update to its generative virtual synthesizer instrument designed for unstable starting points. Version 1.1 of WX comes with native support for macOS, and various additions and improvements.
WX begins with small generative decisions instead of a blank patch. It is built for quick accidents, slow movement, and tones that feel like they are being negotiated in real time.
Changes in WX v1.1
- Native macOS Support: Compiled universal binary supporting Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel 64-bit architectures. Formats include Audio Unit (AU v2), VST3, and Standalone.
- Dedicated LFO Module: Added an assignable Low Frequency Oscillator with rate controls and selectable waveforms. Modulation coordinates directly with parameters and animates live on the telemetry radar.
- Coordinated Randomization: Procedural randomization engine now couples with the LFO and filter envelopes for structured patch exploration.
- Playback Stream Continuity: Eliminated audio buffer dropouts, clicks, and crackles; resolved playback stalls when generating procedural patches in real time.
- Audio Engine Stability: Addressed host memory synchronization exceptions and eliminated edge-case window close freezes across major DAWs.
- Interface Scaling: Added 90% and 110% viewport zoom options in settings; refined the default window footprint for laptop screens.
- User Documentation: Comprehensive technical guide (WX-Manual.pdf) is now bundled directly with download packages.
