Snorkel Audio has released a distortion effect built around a selection of sound-shaping modes across 5 sonic territories, with a rhythmic modulator on every dial.
Disto Disco starts with familiar drive and distortion, then moves into distorting delays, spectral vocoders and filters, raw mathematical distortions, and granular scattering, with each mode swapping in its own dedicated set of controls.
Any dial can be set to dance along with a drawn pattern, a chosen shape, or its own self-generated rhythm, and a Random function with a Spice dial can send the whole patch, mode included, in an entirely new direction.
Each of its 28 processing modes is designed to move and breathe with the beat, so every effect becomes expressive and alive. A distortion plugin at heart, it also ventures into much stranger territory. Alongside gentle drive, folding, fuzz and gain, it can apply degrading echoes, tuned resonances, morphing vowels, spectral smears, harsh mathematical processing and granular clouds to a sound.
Disto Disco features
- 28 modes: Drive, Time, Spectral, Math and Granular families cover sounds from warm saturation and fuzz to degrading echoes, tuned resonances, spectral processing and granular textures.
- Per-dial modulation: every dial has its own rhythmic modulator, so each control moves with its own shape.
- Random and Spice: generate a fresh direction for the whole patch, from a focused variation to a heavily modulated result.
- Tone and dynamics: Low Cut, Tube and High Cut shape the effect, while an envelope follower makes distortion react to the input.
Disto Disco for Windows and macOS (VST3/AU) is available to purchase for €59 EUR. A free demo version is available to try the plugin.
