Solid State Logic has announced the release of the LMC+ Plug-in, a classic compressor audio effect that recreates the Listen Mic Compressor (LMC) originally found on the SSL 4000E console, with added creative tools.

The plugin is designed to let you add that classic ’80s smack to your drums and reverb in an instant, parallel vocals effortlessly or add energy and drive to acoustic or synth bass.

The LMC’s unique processing capabilities were discovered by accident in a drum recording session between Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and engineer, Hugh Padgham where the consoles communication link, which featured a new compressor circuit to prevent overloading – the ‘Listen Mic Compressor’ – was left engaged whist recording a drum take.

The result? A thick, punchy compression effect that caused reverb to disappear in an instant, which to this day is widely regarded at the foundation for that ’80s drum sound. The LMC’s fixed attack and release curves and aggressive compression were discovered to be eminently suitable for drums and many other applications.

The simple to use plugin features fixed attack and release curves, external sidechain, and SSL’s high and low pass filters.

The LMC+ Plug-in (VST/VST3/AU/AAX) is on sale for the introductory price of $29.99 USD until July 6th, 2021 (regular $119 USD).
