Soniccouture has announced the release of a new Kontakt instrument library featuring the sounds of a Leedy 660 xylophone.
Modern xylophones can sound hard and unpleasant; many use synthetic tone bars. But recently we stumbled across an instrument that’s almost 100 years old. This xylophone had a warmth and personality to it that seemed almost cosy, friendlier than those we’d played before. Made by the Leedy Company, it is made of Honduran Rosewood and is beautifully worn and burnished and has plenty of character.
Furthermore, it turns out this instrument was owned (+ signed) by the celebrated British-Canadian jazz percussionist Peter Appleyard (1928-2013) – a true piece of musical history.
Xylophone features
- 6,690 samples, 24-bit/48kHz stereo sampling.
- 50-60 velocity layers with anti-repeat.
- 2 Stereo mic channels:
- Close XY: Schoeps MK4
- Wide spaced pair: Earthworks
- 3 mallet types: Soft, medium, hard.
- Micro-tuning module.
- Scale preset library with user save/load.
- 35 Presets: Natural + Sound Design.
Available for Kontakt and the free Kontakt Player, Soniccouture Xylophone is on sale for the intro price of $90 USD until March 3rd, 2026 (regular $129 USD).
