Sonora Cinematic has announced the second chapter of the developer’s premium cinematic strings series for Soundbox.
Featuring authentic orchestral string recordings, Inflections stays true to the core focus of Movimento Strings by creating movement and life within sustained notes. Where the first chapter explored subtle internal motion through bowing and dynamics, Inflections goes further by introducing extended techniques that bring new textures and fresh colors to users’ cinematic strings palettes.
Each of the four extended techniques is designed to add a different kind of movement and colour to sustained textures…
- Flickering: Long sustained notes where each musician in the section randomly plays a quarter tone acciaccatura. The result is an unsettled, shimmering texture that feels alive and unpredictable – a natural fit for creating tension and unease.
- Ricochet Gestures: Long, non-looping articulations in which each player independently introduces a ricochet texture: beginning slowly, evolving into a scratchy, rhythmic flutter, and eventually fading away. The overall effect is organic and unpredictable.
- Dynamic: A refined companion to the Dynamic articulation found in Movimento Strings, each player performs independent crescendos and decrescendos, but the shifts are slower and more understated, producing a gentle, barely-there undulation that works beautifully in delicate or introspective passages.
- Dynamic Flautando: The same independent dynamic movement, now combined with flautando playing. The bow moves closer to the fingerboard, softening the tone and adding an airy, veiled quality to the gradual swell and fade of each player.
A Perfect Partnership
Inflections shares the same scoring stage, set-up and 12-piece ensemble (3 first violins, 3 second violins, 3 violas, 2 celli and 1 bass) as the first chapter, ensuring both libraries sit naturally alongside each other – perfect for layering!
Standard vs Professional
Movimento Strings is available in two versions…
- Standard: Each of the articulations are rendered into a ready-to-play mix that sounds great right out of the box. Users can simply load any of the 13 patches and start writing.
- Professional: In addition to its 44 presets, the Pro version adds advanced tools like multiple mic perspectives for each articulation (Decca, Wide, Section Overheads and Close mics) plus an ‘EXTRA’ performance pass allowing users to effectively expand the ensemble with six more players while keeping it natural-sounding.
In Soundbox, these signals can be blended using the standard mixer, or morphed between them using the Vector tab, offering deep control over the spatial character of the ensemble.
Movimento Strings Inflections is available to purchase at introductory pricing until June 30th, 2026. The Standard edition is £19 GBP (regular £25 GBP), while the Professional edition is £29 GBP (regular £39 GBP).
