Sonora Cinematic has released the third volume in the Transfigured Orchestra series for Audiomodern’s free Soundbox sampler instrument. Delivering quiet, intimate tones through to bold majestic textures, Cinema Brass is designed to create music that feels tense, emotional and alive.
Designed for composers and sound designers who need brass that carries emotional weight, Cinema Brass’ dark, foreboding textures and suspenseful, tension-laden tones are built for the moments where a score has to hold the room. It’s equally at home in the hands of music producers looking to add impact to dark ambient and electronic tracks.
Where Vol 1: A Quiet Ensemble and Vol 2: Hybrid Gestures featured brass as a supporting color within a wider ensemble, Vol 3 puts it firmly centre stage.
Flugelhorn, solo French horn, trumpets and trombones step into the spotlight across 25 carefully crafted presets – from traditional, instantly recognizable orchestral sounds through to abstract, ambient and sound design textures.
In Vol 2, the Flugelhorn appeared as long, swelling crescendos and decrescendos. This time a more playable approach has been taken, capturing the warm, rounded character that makes this such an evocative voice.
Alongside it, flutter-tongue articulations bring life and movement to otherwise static arrangements, a tender Solo French Horn patch delivers intimacy and fragility – perfect for sparse, ambient music, and a majestic trombone ensemble at full forte adds weight and presence.
In typical Sonora Cinematic style, Cinema Brass also features something a little more unique with a collection of vintage sampler patches. These were created by re-sampling the deep-sampled brass through digital hardware that creates accurate models of vintage samplers and other effect processors. The result is a series of presets with a gritty, lo-fi character, full of digital artifacts and vintage charm which opens up some surprising creative possibilities.
Finally, there’s a selection of organic cinematic sound design patches that excel as deep, cinematic basses for maximum impact.
Cinema Brass is available to buy for the introductory price of £15 GBP June 5th, 2026. (regular £19 GBP).
