Splice has released a new Splice Originals series of sample pack. The second installment in the Dead Drums series by Sean Hutchinson, Midtempo contains a total of 211 drum loops and 74 one shots.
Master session drummer Sean Hutchinson—a top-tier touring and recording musician for Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Bleachers—presents a collection designed for the modern groove. While the first volume explored the world of downtempo, this follow-up hits the sweet spot of the pocket, focusing on the essential 100 to 120 BPM range.
These aren’t your typical “roomy” drums. Each kit was captured close and direct to eliminate unwanted acoustics and deliver a bone-dry, intimate sound that sits right at the front of a mix. To ensure maximum character, every hit was processed through a vintage tape machine for authentic analog warmth and natural saturation.
Other recent Splice Originals series packs include:
- Afro Shatta Vol. 2: Crafted in Dakar, Senegal, this collection blends the rhythmic pulse of Shatta with rich harmonic textures, soulful melodies, and vocal-ready arrangements designed for today’s Afro-R&B, Afropop, and melodic hip-hop productions.
- Hexagons: Serum 2: Deeply nostalgic Serum 2 presets, MIDI, and loops inspired by every era of Boards of Canada — from the fragile innocence of Hi Scores to the darker, scorched atmospheres of later works like Inferno.
- UKG and Speed Garage for Serum 2: Warped low end, swung groove, and stripped-back club functionality, inspired by artists like MPH, Notion, Sensu, Ian Asher, Gravagerz, BL3SS, and Moonlight.
- Serum 2 Essential Keys: Impeccably engineered multi-samples of the world’s most iconic keyboards—from the grit of a Wurlitzer to the lush warmth of a Juno-60—integrated directly into Serum 2’s multisampler engine.
The packs and all individual sounds are available to Splice subscribers.
