In the summer of 2023, Splice, the platform that helps music creators bring their ideas to life, released the follow-up to producer Oliver’s acclaimed Power Tools sample pack series, Power Tools Decades. Elevating the chart-topping producer’s signature blend of retro influences and cutting-edge production, Decades reimagines the iconic drum grooves from twenty years of modern pop music. Now, they wrap up the beloved Decades series with Power Tools Decades – 00’s.
The Power Tools releases are essential for producers around the world. This new pack channels the groove and bounce of early 2000s drum programming. Inspired by sonic trailblazers such as The Neptunes and Timbaland, Oliver layers classic rhythms with modern processing, making them hit harder and sound more dynamic.
“The 2000s had such a distinct rhythm and swagger. I wanted to capture that—but make it hit even harder with today’s tools. For this pack, I leaned into live percussion and foley recording to give it that extra dimension and energy,” says Oliver. “I’m always so blown away with what producers and artists have made with my sounds and loops. I’m very grateful that I’m able to help and inspire other musicians, even in a small way.”
Power Tools Decades launched in August of 2023 with “Power Tools Decades – 80’s,” 257 samples of the era’s big, bold, and unmistakably synthetic drums. Oliver followed that with “Power Tools Decades – 90’s” in May 2024. The second volume focussed on modernizing the raw grooves and energy of a decade that took hip-hop, house, and jungle into the mainstream.
Few producers have shaped the sound of modern pop and electronic music quite like Oliver. In addition to working with artists such as Katy Perry, Kim Petras, and Nicki Minaj, he has inspired countless producers through his acclaimed Power Tools sample series. Beloved by producers worldwide, Power Tools samples drive the charts and the clubs. Last year’s Grammy Award-winning song of the summer, “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter, was built around Power Tools samples, and that’s just one example of how far Oliver’s influence reaches.
While Power Tools Decades – 00’s concludes the trilogy, Oliver remains a vital part of Splice Sounds.
“The next project is called Power Tools Presents,” he reveals. “I want to spotlight my favorite sound designers and collaborators. It’s going to be a whole new vibe—and I think producers will really love it.”
