Symbolic Music has released a brand new software for digital composers looking to bring the feel of live performance to virtual orchestrations. Using cutting edge tech to speed up the process of tempo alignment, the tool allows more time for the creative and unique aspects of the music making process.
By eliminating manual beat-mapping and having to spend time correcting automated methods, Synchrony employs score-informed tempo mapping to preserve musical expression. This new technique called for the development of an equally new type of interface and user flow – a score-performance alignment editor – that has not been available in any software before now.
Synchrony was designed by a composer for composers working in all environments, from home-based creators, to those in educational settings, and multitrack film composition teams scoring blockbusters. Within the software, once the live performance is captured in the composition process, human timing and expression are interpreted and synchronised across virtual instruments.
The Inspiration Behind Synchrony
Like many digital tools for artists, Synchrony was born out of a belief that there must be a better way of doing things. Being locked to the grid had killed expression.
Throughout his studies and music career, Synchrony creator, composer and technologist, Eoin Roe, has developed his own music, taking advantage of some of the world’s best sample libraries. But he kept running into a clear limitation in existing digital tools; one that inspired him to combine his musical and technical skills to create a new solution for composers.
Eoin Roe, Synchrony creator and founder, says,
“We all know instinctively how we want sound and silence to integrate, how moments should breathe and connect. My aim with Synchrony is that those intentions can be positioned with pinpoint accuracy. It’s a digital canvas that allows composers to visibly shape the flow of sound and silence in a way that feels natural and alive. So Synchrony liberates. Offering full expressive freedom, while maintaining precise control. All within the constraints of a DAW.”
Drawing on research conducted at the Centre for Digital Music – a world-leading multidisciplinary group in music and audio technology – Eoin built Synchrony from scratch to solve the problem he had always faced when composing.
Previously, composers would have to adjust every single layer of a recording by hand – a tedious, time-consuming process that many simply avoid. Synchrony automates that workflow while preserving the natural feel of the performance. Rather than removing artistry, it enhances it, breathing life back into the music and making the experience richer, more expressive and more resonant.
Available in VST3, AU and CLAP plugin formats for Windows and macOS, Synchrony is on sale for the intro price of £49 GBP (regular £69 GBP).
