The Crow Hill Company has released a children’s choir instrument cast specifically for unsettling, cinematic use, aiming at the unease a young voice can carry against darker subject matter rather than a conventional choral tone.
Children’s Choir was recorded with a troupe of boys chosen for what the developer calls the right amount of “beautiful-menace,” captured within child-labour regulations for a curated rather than exhaustive set of articulations.
Alongside the standard mix, two alternate signal paths are included: a pitched-down, lofi-processed partial and a warm, tape-saturated reverb partial, for pushing the same performances toward more overtly disturbing territory.
Children’s Choir features
- Shorts: Koh, Lee, Nah, Bah, Dee, Hah, Meh, Rue, Soh, Teh.
- Sustains: Rah, Broo, Ceee, Nai, Ahoh, Ehoh, NeAh, OhEh.
- FX: Flowing, Wavering, Fractured, Rise, Falls, Mouth Noise, Chatter, Whispers.
- Three mixes per sound: Main, Fearsome (pitched down, saturated FX), and Loathsome (dark ambient verb FX).
- Up to 4 round robins, 1 dynamic layer, and a Whisper+Shout FX layer for shorts and sustains.
Children’s Choir for Windows and Mac (VST/VST3, AU and AAX) is available to purchase at an early-access price of $69 USD through October 5th, 2026 (regular $89 USD).
