Ableton Live has never allowed users to reassign its keyboard shortcuts, and many of its commands cannot be triggered from MIDI at all. Trigger, a new macOS utility from UK producer-led studio All Good Folks, removes both limits.
Trigger lets users map any key or any MIDI note/CC to any Ableton Live command. Several commands can be chained onto a single key press or pad hit, fired all at once or as a sequence. The app only acts while Ableton Live is the frontmost application, so the rest of the Mac is never affected, and it sits quietly in the menu bar.
The plugin was built by Benji Gordon, a music producer and composer who writes for sync, TV and film under All Good Folks.
“I built Trigger because I was tired of reaching for awkward key combos in the middle of a session,” says Gordon. “Now any key or pad can do exactly what I want, and Live finally works the way I think.”
