UB DSP has announced the release of a formant filter plugin built around expressive, real-time modulation. Vowel Blender is designed for sound design, vocal textures and expressive automation.
Most vowel filters give you presets and a morph slider. You pick a vowel set, you tweak a knob, you move on.
Vowel Blender lets you play the filter. The XY pad responds to gestures, mouse, MIDI, or the modulation engine. The motion recorder captures what you played and loops it in tempo. The voice models give you 7 distinct timbres that aren’t in any other formant plugin.
Vowel Blender features
- 10 vowels arranged on a 2D phonetic pad.
- 7 voice models (Woman, Man, Kids) based on real voices.
- Motion recorder that loops gestures in sync with the host.
- 9 modulator types (LFO, MSEG, Step Seq, Audio Osc, Env Gen, Env Follower, Macro, MIDI, XY) with intermodulation.
- Phase-matched Linkwitz-Riley low-pass crossover keeps the low end clean even under extreme resonance.
Available for Windows, macOS and Linux (VST3, AU, AAX and CLAP), Vowel Blender is on sale at a launch price of 39 USD/EUR/GBP until July 1st, 2026 (regular 68 USD/EUR/GBP). A full-featured trial version is available to try the plugin (periodic silence, no time limit).
