Unusable Engineering has announced an update to its audio plugins, allowing users to turn static patches into motion with new 4- and 8-slot parameter sequencers.
Each slot stores a parameter state and can be stepped or slewed using either internal or host clock. Slots can be randomized individually and switched in or out of the sequence.
The addition of slot sequencers allows for creating various effects such as tremolo and auto-pan, stepped patterns, slow morphing effects, and more experimental modulation.
The Curves & Membranes synthesizer was updated with a new oscillator mode called “Node Mode”.
The normal oscillator uses Bézier handles to shape its single-cycle waveform. In Node Mode those handles are replaced by vector points, which changes how the synth sounds and allows much deeper wave folding.
It gives the synth a noticeably more modern and aggressive side while still using the same one-oscillator architecture.
The synth also features a new Vel->Radius option, where incoming velocity can multiply the radius of its orbital modulators by up to 5x. This allows harder notes to introduce more movement rather than just changing level or filter response.
Version 1.3.0 update also introduces a preset browser across the full lineup, along with some starting-point presets, version checking and a few smaller workflow and stability improvements.
The update is free for existing users, and the free Binaural Modulator and Cavitation Fractures plugins (VST3/AU) have also been updated with a slot sequencer and preset system, alongside some bug fixes.
