The Vienna Symphonic Library has announced the release of the final two installments of its line of muted solo string instruments recorded on the large Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage.
Performed by Vienna Synchron Orchestra concertmaster Damir Oraščanin and solo violist Anna Firsanova, these collections complete a full muted string quartet alongside the previously released Synchron Solo Violin 1 (sordino) and Synchron Solo Cello (sordino).
The Complete Muted String Quartet
The Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (sordino) unites all four muted instruments of a world-class string quartet, performed by Marina Dimitrova (violin 1), Damir Oraščanin (violin 2), Anna Firsanova (viola), and Florian Eggner (cello) – each with a distinct voice and personality. Recorded in the pristine space of Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage, the four collections blend seamlessly, whether in string quartet compositions, atmospheric film cues, or delicate layered string arrangements.
Two Distinct Voices
Synchron Solo Violin 2 (sordino) features Damir Oraščanin, concertmaster of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra since 2020. Just as on the original Synchron Solo Violin 2, he lends the second violin a contrasting tone – a different artist on a different instrument than the first violin – making the quartet come alive in dialog and layered expression.
Synchron Solo Viola (sordino) once again features Anna Firsanova, solo violist of the Vienna Synchron Orchestra and co-principal violist of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, who also performed the original Synchron Solo Viola. With the mute in place, her playing reveals a softer, more refined side of the instrument, without losing any of her individual personality.
A Complete Muted Palette
Each collection offers essentially the same comprehensive articulation set as its original counterpart, with every note recorded using the sordino.
Short notes include various spiccatos, staccatos, détachés, and ricochet. Long notes come with different releases and slides, while legato variants range from normal and agile to slurred, portamento, and zigane. Sforzatos, tremolos, trills, harmonics, and pizzicatos round out the palette. The Crossfade Editor in the Vienna Synchron Player allows for seamless blending between articulations, letting composers shape transitions with full musical control.
Both new collections are currently available at introductory prices of €129 EUR (regular €169 EUR) for each Standard Library and €179 EUR (regular €239 EUR) for each Full Library. With their arrival, the Synchron Solo Strings Bundle (sordino) is now complete and available at its introductory price through August 22nd, 2026.
The offer is available at the VSL store and from distributors such as Best Service
