Steinberg announces Nuendo 7 preview at Game Developers Conference

Steinberg Nuendo 7

Steinberg has announced the upcoming release of Nuendo 7 alongside their partnership with Audiokinetic Inc., the leading global provider of cross-platform audio solutions for the interactive media and gaming industries.

15 years ago, the Nuendo digital audio workstation first enriched the pro audio market by introducing a new paradigm: to unite completely native technologies with peerless audio and surround features. Today, Nuendo empowers audio professionals to higher levels of productivity: discerning post-production editors, film mixers as well as recording engineers around the world rely on the flexibility and industry openness that Nuendo provides.

Game sound designers increasingly depend on Nuendo; its highly configurable program structure and many sound-design tools help to create and manipulate audio. With Nuendo 7, Steinberg now take the next step by including Game Audio Connect, providing a seamless connection to the Wwise audio middleware solution by Audiokinetic.

Steinberg’s senior marketing manager, Timo Wildenhain, comments: “Nuendo 7 will make a major impact on television and film post-production facilities, and with Audiokinetic at our side, we are confident that the smooth compatibility with Wwise will establish a sustainable position within the game industry.”

Belonging to the new features around game audio, the integration between Nuendo and Audiokinetic’s Wwise audio middleware solution allows mixdowns to be exported to Wwise via a simple drag-and-drop operation, bypassing file management operations and working seamlessly between Mac and Windows computers on a network. It is also possible to open the Nuendo project corresponding to an exported section directly from Wwise. Other useful tools for game sound designers and those dealing with a large number of audio files are the new Render Export feature that exports a free selection of audio files to a disk destination, including many individual options, and Render In Place for direct rendering within the project, making it available on a new audio track for further editing.

“One of Audiokinetic’s core focuses is to streamline the workflow of the interactive audio community. This integration with Nuendo 7 represents a great step towards that overall goal,” says Martin Dufour, CTO of Audiokinetic. “It will allow individuals to work more smoothly on their creation, and teams to collaborate more efficiently on their projects.”

At next week’s 2015 Game Developers Conference, taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA, United States, Steinberg will be showing the first preview of Nuendo 7 at the Audiokinetic booth, no. 836.

Audiokinetic partners with Audio Ease – Altiverb Impulse Responses available for Wwise

Audiokinetic Wwise

Audiokinetic and Audio Ease have announced a partnership where Audiokinetic will distribute award winning Altiverb Impulse Response packages for the Wwise convolution reverb plug-in.

The first package will be available before the end of this year and will contain 49 impulse responses mostly oriented for the reproduction of outdoor environments. Reproducing outdoor environments is probably one of the most difficult tasks for sound designers today and this package arrives at the right moment for professionals seeking quality and realism in their games.

“At the design phase of our convolution reverb, we set a very challenging goal that we could have the best technology from the post-production world running in games, said Simon Ashby, VP Products at Audiokinetic. Given that our convolution reverb operates with high performance and that we proudly partner with Audio Ease, which is certainly the most respected player in this field, I think we can say that we have achieved our goal”.

“Convolution reverb approaches the real world so much better than synthetic reverb that it had no trouble taking over Hollywood film sound. I hope this set of movie post-pro Altiverb IR’s will help convolution reverb do the same in game sound, added Arjen van der Schoot, Co-owner of Audio Ease. We had been waiting for the right opportunity to start applying our IR’s in real time in games. When Audiokinetic came along, we did not hesitate. I believe we have chosen to partner with a company as devoted to impressive sounding audio as we are.”
