Universal Audio has announced it is shipping the Apollo 16 Audio Interface and new UAD Software v.7.0, which provides multi-unit cascading, Virtual I/O, and other enhancements to both the Apollo 16 and Apollo audio interfaces.
Universal Audio’s Apollo 16 audio interface provides 16 x 16 analog I/O with world-class sound and realtime UAD processing.
Apollo 16 is Universal Audio’s flagship 24-bit/192 kHz audio interface, delivering world-class conversion with 16 x 16 analog I/O. This uncompromising FireWire/Thunderbolt-ready* interface combines superior sound and flexible routing with powerful onboard UAD-2 QUAD processing. So you can track audio in real time through the full range of classic UAD analog emulation plug-ins — from Neve, Studer, Manley, Lexicon and more — on both Mac and Windows 7.*
Building upon decades of UA hardware expertise, Apollo 16 features meticulous analog circuit design, top-end converters, and DC-coupled outputs — providing the lowest THD and highest dynamic range of any converter in its class. Two Apollo 16 units can be cascaded over MADI for an expanded system with eight UAD processors and 32 x 32 simultaneous analog I/O, capable of handling large professional mixes.
Apollo 16 also offers compatibility with Intel’s high-bandwidth Thunderbolt technology on Macs via a user-installable dual-port Thunderbolt Option Card (sold separately). Thunderbolt provides greater UAD plug-in instances, improved performance at high sample rates, and reduced UAD plug-in latency in the DAW versus Apollo’s standard FireWire connection.
Apollo 16 is available for an estimated street price of $2,999 USD. Apollo’s Thunderbolt Option Card is also now available for an estimated street price of $499 USD.
Universal Audio’s new UAD Software features enhancements for Apollo and Apollo 16.
Universal Audio’s latest UAD Software v7.0 provides significant enhancements to Apollo’s workflow and expandability and adds the new Ocean Way Studios, SPL TwinTube, and Sonnox Inflator plug-ins to the UAD Powered Plug-Ins platform. Among these enhancements is multi-unit cascading, which allows for combining two Apollo 16 interfaces (for 32 x 32 analog I/O) or two Apollo interfaces (for 16 x 16 analog I/O, with eight Apollo mic preamps) into a single elegant system via FireWire or Thunderbolt.
The boost in Apollo connectivity is navigated via a redesigned Console application, offering better visual feedback, a new PT Mode which simplifies outboard hardware integration with Pro Tools, and a new Virtual I/O feature that allows for Realtime UAD Processing of DAW tracks and virtual instruments.
XILS-lab has announced XILS V+, an instrument plug-in that combines a Vintage 10 band Vocoder, Supreme Top Octave Divider based Strings and Human Voices, or any sophisticated layering of these three elements.
From a very long time, this wonderful and versatile machine was used by a lot of well know artists and musicians, from a long time now, it is waiting by a lot of computer user to be part of their sound arsenal.
Don’t wait any more, XILS-lab finely emulated the Top Octave Divider Oscillator, the strings and human voice filter, the wonderful Ensemble (chorus) circuitry and last be least the 10 bands vocoder. How close XILS-lab did ? juts judge by yourself seeing the A/B comparison video, listening to the various Audio demo.
Not only emulating the original machine, the XILS V+ offers you much more : some hidden parameters are now avalable for the user, three built-in effects (Stereo Space, Reverb, Phaser) and tone of modulation possibilities are also providing for a huge sound possibilities and character.
The XILS V+ emulation of the Roland Vocoder VP-330 Plus.
XILS V+ features
One finely tweak and emulated Top Octave Divider aliasing free oscillator, providing up to 49 voices of polyphony.
One strings section.
One human voices section.
One 10 bands vocoder.
A virtual keyboard which can be saved in your presets.
An Advance Stereo Space effect.
A simple but nice sounding reverb.
A Ananlog like resonant Phaser.
Up to 6 free assignable modulation dots, with up to 11 sources and 23 destinations.
A special Glide function.
A finely tweak analog-like pitch tracker.
Access to a lot of parameters which its hardware model kept secret under the roof.
All parameters are MIDI controllable.
XILS V+ for Windows and Mac (VST/AU/RTAS/AAX) will be available to purchase on May 25th, 2013, for 149 EUR.
Apart from all those updates we also presented a couple of new products and the new modules for Diva…

The long-awaited virtual modular synthesizer instrument Bazille is expected June, 2013, with an estimated price of $149 USD.
Many of you will already know the alpha version of Bazille, a spin-off from our long-term project “Berlin Modular”. It’s been a few years already, so its about time we finished the job!
For those who didn’t know, Bazille is a large modular synth with FM, PD and Fractal Resonance built into each oscillator:
Unique FM / PD based modular synthesizer, audio-rate modulation
Quality effects and many other features not available in the alpha version
The Diva virtual analog synthesizer is also getting another update, expected this June.
Despite the current update to V1.2, Diva will undergo yet another free update to include the following new modules:
digital oscillator emulation with dual multi-saws, internal feedback, pitched noise and more
‘uhbie’ emulation of a certain legendary 2-pole filter
powerful arpeggiator and sequencer
ETA is June 2013, free update from Diva 1.x
Furthermore, u-he announced that a public beta of its Presswerk compressor plug-in will be available shortly.
Variety Of Sound has announced Thrillseeker VBL, an upcoming “Vintage Broadcast Limiter” effect plug-in.
Bringing mojo back – Thrillseeker VBL is a “Vintage Broadcast Limiter” emulation following the classic Variable-Mu design principles from the early days back in the 1950′s. Their purpose once were to prevent audio overshoots by managing the signals sudden changes w/o tone frequent modulations.
From a today’s perspective and especially compared to brickwall limiters, they are rather slow and more to be seen as a sort of gain structure leveler but still they are shining so much when it comes down to perform gain riding in a very musical fashion: They have warmth and mojo written all over it! Whether given vocals, bass or an entire track – they just deliver.
The release date of Thrillseeker VBL is TBA (expected May, 2013).
Beyerdynamic has announced Virtual Studio, a free speaker system emulation effect plug-in developed in collaboration with ITA Aachen (Institute of Technical Acoustics), Bauer Studios Ludwigsburg and the HOFA studios.
The plug-in virtually simulates real speaker systems (such as stereo or 5.1) in various environments (recording studio, concert halls, etc.) on your headphones.
This lets you listen to audio tracks or signals on your headphones as if they were playing over the correspondent speaker system in whichever space you choose.
No more long waiting periods and stress with appointments just to use a studio space which is only available for a limited time anyway – with beyerdynamic Virtual Studio you can mix and master your tracks whenever you want and wherever you are. Whether riding on the train, sitting at home on the sofa or hanging out at a friend’s place – you can take the studio wherever you go.
Virtual Studio is a free effect plug-in for Windows and Mac (32/64 bit).
