Impact Soundworks releases Shreddage 2X update + Sale

Impact Soundworks has announced Shreddage 2X, a major update to the popular Shreddage 2 virtual electric guitar library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Impact Soundworks Shreddage 2

The “Shreddage 2X” update includes a total overhaul of the instrument’s UI and underlying engine, adding new features, refinements, options, and even new recordings like powerchord portamento & staccato samples.

Changes in Shreddage 2X

  • UI has been totally redone from the ground up in the style of Archtop. It looks way better, and it’s more intuitive. Check out the Info Bar along the bottom for help text with various controls.
  • The underlying engine has been completely rewritten, from string logic to portamento and double-tracking. Fewer bugs! Better string selection!
  • The entire instrument has been transposed up one octave to make room for new keyswitches.
  • New FX pedals have been added, along with more control over existing FX like the Skreamer pedal or BITE EQ depth.
  • New “Thrash Note” feature. When enabled, select a keyswitch. This key will trigger the LAST played note. Useful for live performance / fast parts.
  • New custom keyswitches. Articulations can now be assigned to keyswitches, instead of (or in addition to) velocities. Keyswitches can be “latched”, or not. Latching means when you press the keyswitch, that articulation will remain on until you press another keyswitch. Without latching, you have to HOLD the key for the articulation to stick.
  • New “Random Resonance” feature. This optional setting will allow for random string resonance, particularly on higher velocities. This can add a bit of extra dirt and sloppiness to your playing.. all in the name of realism!
  • New “Pick Offset” feature. Use this to cut into the sample start time of all notes. Great if you want a snappier response and LESS pick attack.
  • New Velocity -> Volume and Velocity Curve controls. With Velocity to Volume, you can allow the velocity of your keystrokes to affect volume. With a value of 100%, velocity makes a BIG difference on volume, while 0% is like the original S2 playing mode. Or use anything in between! Velocity Curve lets you smoothly adjust the response of the instrument.
  • Various tweaked + improved engine settings (i.e. more options for release noise / extra pick sound).
  • New MIDI CCs. You can now tweak portamento wait time, change the unison bend CC, and tune individual strings +/- 7 semitones.
  • New + tweaked keyswitches.

Shreddage 2 is currently on sale for $99 USD (regular $139 USD). It is compatible with the free Kontakt 5 Player and includes a free copy of Revalver HPse, the amp sim by Peavey.

Spitfire Audio releases BML Trumpet Corps Vol. 1

Spitfire Audio BML Trumpet Corpse Vol. 1

Spitfire Audio has released Trumpet Corps Vol. 1, a new British Modular Library series instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Following in the trailblazing footsteps of BML BONES – VOL #1, with essential articulations for trombone, BML TRUMPET CORPS – VOL #1 represents the eleventh instalment in Spitfire Audio’s ongoing BML series of virtual instruments for Mac (OS X 10.6 or higher) and PC (Windows 7), and, as implied by name, turns the critically-acclaimed compositional tools creator’s attention to essential articulations for trumpet.

As the latest jewel in the BML crown, this first volume features three of the finest players in London performing with magical musical zest and astounding character using the finest instruments — one recorded solo and two in unison (a2), seated exactly in situ so combining the resultant a2 patches with the solo ones makes for a slightly larger section while maintaining spacial integrity — using the exceptional acoustics at Lyndhurst Hall — highly regarded as one of the greatest scoring stages in the world — within London’s legendary Air Studios by award-winning producer/engineer extraordinaire Jake Jackson.

The library is available for purchase for £249 GBP (excl. VAT).

Sound Dust releases Modular Chaos Engine libraries Found & Evolved

Sound Dust has announced the release of Modular Chaos Engine #1 – Found and Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved, two instrument libraries for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Sound Dust Modular Chaos Engine #1 - Found

For the past 10 years or so I’ve always carried some kind of portable recording device and a pair of OKM in ear microphones around with me and kept a kind of aural diary of great sounding things and great sounding places. I’ve made literally gazillions of recordings in places all over this side of the world, and like most diaries these recordings have mainly been sitting in dark cupboards waiting for someone to rediscover them…

The Modular Chaos Engine is the perfect repository for 785 of them. I’ve selected the most usefully percussive, clangy, bangy, thumpy, boomy, itchy, scratchy, thwacky and whacky, added a really powerful sequencing engine and made a “found sound” drum machine.

Modular Chaos Engine #1 – Found features

  • 785 individual samples ( including up to 20 variations of each sound) mapped to 12 sample engines from C1 upwards.
  • 160mb download.
  • 12 complex 12 track sequencers triggered from keys C0 and above (adjustable).
  • The Chaos button for instant randomisation.
  • The Order button for an instant return to normality.
  • Comprehensive editing with quick edit system for control of all sounds together, or indivual editing of tune, time, low pass filter, high pass filter, attack, decay and volume.
  • Individual per engine articulation controls.
  • Separate sequence tracks for sound selection, accent, decay, pan and tuning per note.
  • Chaotic “looper” control with 32 looping algorithms.
  • All controls midi learnable.
  • Inbuilt instruction manual.

“Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved” features a fully electronic instrument.

Sound Dust Modular Chaos Engine #2 - Evolved

Its probably no secret that this time i’ve exploited the strange and rather wonderful qualities of Dave Smiths’ criminally underated analog/digital masterpiece the Evolver. I LOVE this underdog synth because it has so much wonky personality and a wonderful architecture that can produce some really great sounds….usually of a slightly boisterous nature.

So, for this Chaos Engine there are up to 127 different sounds/articulations per key which are very loosely mapped across the keys from from low kick drum type sounds through snappy snare type sounds up to more clicky, rattly hats and then the mildly melodic sounds up near the top end of the key range.

Modular Chaos Engine #2 – Evolved features

  • 1106 individual samples ( including up to 20 variations of each sound) mapped to 12 sample engines from C1 upwards.
  • 283mb download.

The sample libraries are available for purchase for £20 GBP each, or bundled for £35 GBP.
