Modwheel releases The Lowdown double bass for Kontakt

Modwheel The Lowdown

Modwheel has announced the release of The Lowdown, a Kontakt library featuring the sounds of a 100 year old double bass from David Donaldson.

The original concept for the LOWDOWN was to detune the Bass to a low G, 8 semitones lower than its normal low E and record over a minute of low drones on each note over a range of 3 octaves. We then recorded bowed harmonics playing the same notes that can be layered on using a keyboard mod wheel.

The result is a huge variety of rich organically moving drones and pads, that are all at least a minute long performance before looping, from very natural to very messed with.

After achieving this aural triumph, we decided to extend the library to include traditional pizzicato and arco articulations and some more experimental rhythms and impacts. The rhythms are all BPM’d and will play at whatever tempo your session is at.

The Lowdown features

  • DOUBLE BASS Arco, Pizz, Ambiences, Pads, Impacts, Kits & Rhythms (BPM’d).
  • Long Performance samples, 60 sec+.
  • 24-Bit 48kHz Multisamples.
  • 5.5 GB Core Library (2.6 GB via lossless compression.
  • Note: Requires Kontakt 5.3.0 or higher.

The Lowdown is available for purchase for the introductory price of $49 USD (regular $79 USD).

8Dio Guitar Steel String Strummer

8Dio Productions has released Guitar Steel String Strummer, a guitar instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt.

Steel String Strummer contains over 4,500 samples spread across 13 different chord types and 13 different rhythm types utilizing 8DIO’s powerful x-legato technology, allowing the blending of any chord and rhythm at any time and giving an infinite amount of options. Steel String Strummer is a round-robin based strum library, so even if the user triggers the same chord/rhythm multiple times they still get natural subtle variation.

Steel String Strummer contains all the classic chords (e.g. Major, Minor, Maj7, Min7, Dim7, Dom7) used in traditional song-writing, but also contains more elaborate chords (e.g. Maj7B5, Min79, Dom7#9, Sus2, Sus4, 11s Alt Bass and Add11Alt2).

The rhythm section is equally deep from traditional type of strum rhythms to more genre specific ones (e.g. country, fingered arped, muted chugs). In addition they also recorded muted strums of all rhythms, which gives additional options to design new types of rhythms.

Steel String Strummer also contains intelligent fret noises and velocity based end chords, which allows making a natural ending to a chord progression by playing hard on keyboard.

8DIO has also integrated live FX (e.g. Delay, Verb, Screamer, Lofi, Convolution) into the patches, so you can trigger live FX on top of the patches by using key-switches. Steel String Guitar comes in both 24 and 16-bit versions and has a full purge function (ability to decide which parts of library you want, to conserve RAM).

Guitar Steel String Strummer features

  • Deep-Sampled Steel String Strummer.
  • Direct download / Cloud Server System.
  • Product only available as download.
  • Core Specifications:
  • Deep-Sampled Steel String Strumming.
  • 4.500+ real chord and strum samples.
  • Round Robin (repetition) sampled.
  • 13 chords / 13 rhythms.
  • X-legato and intelligent fret noises.

Homegrown Sound releases Kosmology Elementary for Kontakt

Homegrown Sound Kosmology Elementary

Homegrown Sound has launched Kosmology Elementary, a new instrument library for Native Instruments Kontakt 5.

Whilst the trend nowadays is towards Analog Emulation, Elementary takes the opposite route and brings 467 ‘cheap’ digital instruments into Kosmology. After initial tests it was found that these sounds bring a fantastic clarity, and for Wave Sequencing an excellent range of Timbres which work together extremely well! This is the largest Kosmology release yet with more than twice the instruments included in previous releases, and to get this number and keep the memory consumption down, they are limited to two multi-samples per instrument.

All 467 instruments are multi-sampled, using 2 samples per instrument at 24-bit. Whilst most sounds are chromatically useful, there are also some FX instruments throughout the collection to add some nice surprises and interests whilst Wave Sequencing. Although Kosmology is not really about presets considering how easy and fun it is to make your own, there are Fifty Presets included and of course presets from other Kosmology Releases can also be opened.

The library is available for purchase at an introductory price of $35 USD (regular $75 USD).
