9 Soundware has announced the release of version 2 of String, a collection of presets for the Sculpture synthesizer within Apple Logic Pro.
Irregular in design, with an emphasis on forced software anomalies, the patches exploit naturalistic signal generation with a palette spanning from the sublime to the transgressive. This release is version 2 of an existing product. All registered owners of the previous version will receive free updates.
The 150 patches of String are divided into 4 categories, defined by tonal (“Tuned” or “Unpitched”) and playback (“Loop” or “One-shot”) characteristics. The categories “Tuned Loop” and “Tuned One-shot” each comprise of 35 patches, while “Unpitched Loop” and “Unpitched One-shot” each contain 40 patches.
Via processes such as error-inciting modulation and output-disfiguring overloading, parallel to straightforward usage, each sound was painstakingly shaped to reveal unsung traits of Apple Logic Pro Sculpture, while maintaining utmost usability. Examples include patches that contort the instrument to echo human voices (e.g., Left-hand Path.pst, Nocturnal Emissions.pst, Tardigrade.pst, Arachibutyrophobia.pst, Voice Changer.pst, Voice Coil.pst, and Vox.pst), files that voice timbres vivid (e.g., Triangulate.pst), impressionistic (e.g., Blood Orange.pst), arresting (e.g., Swan Dive 1-3.pst and Crawler 1-2.pst), and chaotic (e.g., Blow Up Doll 1-2.pst, Bird Flu.pst, and Tilt 1-3.pst), as well as freestanding arrays of rhythmic timbres fit for composing vividly multilayered audio (e.g., String.pst and Wire.pst).
All 150 patches of String were programmed with modulation wheel assignments designed as integral performance elements. With a few exceptions where appropriate, the patches also respond to velocity input.
String version 2 is available for purchase for $29.99 USD.
