The free and open source hybrid synthesizer Surge has been updated.
Version 1.9 features 4 new oscillator types, 15 new effects, a large number of microtuning enhancements including support for ODDSound MTS-ESP, substantial new content including a set of patches tailor-made for the new oscillators by Jacky Ligon, and more.
The following osciallator types and effects have been added:
- Modern low aliasing, clean waveshape oscillator.
- Alias digital oscillator that gives lots of 8-bit joy.
- String waveguide-based feedback oscillator.
- Twist oscillator based on a rather famous Eurorack multi-oscillator module.
- Neuron distortion effect based on Gated Reccurent Unit.
- CHOW truculent distortion effect.
- Exciter effect based on a rather famous aural exciter unit.
- Tape compact implementation of Chow Tape Model.
- 11-band graphical EQ.
- Resonator inspired by a resonator unit from a very well-known vintage hybrid polyphonic synthesizer that rhymes with “vogue”.
- Combulator novel bank of 3 comb filters.
- Ensemble effect with several BBD modes and a clean delay mode.
- Nimbus live input granular processor with built-in reverb, based on another rather famous Eurorack module.
- Treemonster wild pitch-tracking ring modulator from Shortcircuit 2.
- 5 new Airwindows effects: Galactic, Infinity, Verbity, MatrixVerb and TripleSpread.
The update also comes with many DSP changes, improvements to the user interface and skin engine, microtuning enhancements, new sounds, and more.
Surge for Windows, macOS and Linux is available to download in VST/VST3, AU, and LV2 plugin formats.
