Yurt Rock’s Ryan Gruss has returned with the next installment in the Beat of the Week series, this time creating a beat inspired from hearing the ‘Candyassed’ kit of the Butch Vig Drums instrument for Kontakt.
With layered Ludwig drums and Hadphoon percussion, inspired by Bob Clearmountain’s sound, I turned a reference session into a beat-making project, finalizing it in Ableton with my favorite synths.
I utilized Arturia’s ARP 2600 plug-in to create a mesmerizing 3-over-4 polyrhythm, which provided an intriguing contrast to the drum pattern. Following that, I launched Massive X and composed a captivating melody that served as an engaging hook, effectively finalizing the beat.
