Nilson has announced the release of a new app that offers a unique fusion of metronome aesthetics and sequencer capabilities.

Bar Sequencer allows you to effortlessly craft intricate sequences, including polyrhythms and polymeters, all within a minimalist interface.

The goal I wanted to achieve was compactness – it takes up little screen space while maintaining the ability to easily create complex sequences with polyrhythms and polymeters.

This is by no means a typical step-sequencer, although you define steps in a loop. It’s not a piano-roll, although it has tracks, and a piano keyboard is used to set the pitch. It simply combines a few proven patterns in its own way.

Bar Sequencer is available as a standalone app and an AUv3 plugin for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The free download at the App Store has a 3-minute time limit (you can reload the plugin to reset), and in-app purchases of AUv3 MIDI FX and Essential Sound Library are $4.99 USD each.
