Chowdhury DSP has released an update to its digital emulation of the Klon Centaur overdrive guitar pedal.
Chow Centaur was created using a variety of circuit modelling techniques, including nodal analysis, wave digital filters, and recurrent neural networks.
Version 1.3.0 now includes support for the AUv3 plugin format on iOS. Other improvements include support for the LV2 plugin format on Linux, as well as general performance improvements, and a “bypass” switch.
The plugin contains two modes, “Traditional” which uses traditional circuit modelling techniques, and “Neural” which uses a recurrent neural network to model the gain stage from the original Klon circuit. More technical details can be found in the accompanying technical paper.
Chow Centaur is a free download for desktop (VST/AU/LV2/Standalone) and iOS.
If you haven’t yet, also make sure to check out Chowdhury DSP’s other effects:
- Chow Tape Model, a digital emulation of a reel-to-reel analog tape machine.
- Chow Matrix, an infinitely growable delay effect, with complex internal modulation and feedback.
- Chow Phaser, a digital phaser effect originally inspired by the Schulte Compact Phasing ‘A’.
All of these effects are free to download from Chowdhury DSP, alongside a collection of modules for the VCV Rack.
