Crocus Soundware has launched a new Kontakt sample library featuring the sounds of the handpan/hang tonal drum instrument.
Liminal: Handpan Explorations incorporates a polyrhythmic engine which allows the user to perform evolving, tempo-synced polyrhythmic phrases by layering notes on top of one another.
The instrument was mic’d at arms length and in stereo in order to capture the inherent reverberance of the instrument, as well as the subtle characteristics of the performer impacting the instrument with their hand or mallet.
In addition to the phrase-like Polyrhythmic samples, the library includes velocity-layered strikes as well as samples of more aleatoric and textured performance. The latter are intended to be used as naturalistic pads, which are suited to add unpredictability to a composition.
Liminal: Handpan Explorations features
- 3.8 GB of samples uncompressed, stereo samples(1.7GB using lossless compression).
- 45 polyrhythmic articulations.
- 6 basic strikes with 42 velocity layers.
- 7 aleatoric sample banks.
- 5 tempo-synced sample banks.
- 6 pads derived from processing the aleatoric samples.
Available for the full version of Kontakt 6.8 or higher, the library is on sale for the intro price of $42 USD until January 15th, 2025 (regular $70 USD).
