Decent Samples has released a sample library featuring the sounds of KORG Berlin’s Phase 8, a new prototype instrument which was demonstrated at the recent Superbooth show in Berlin.
The Phase 8 prototype serves as a demonstration of the new acoustic synthesis technology that Korg Berlin has been working on for the past three years. Unlike most synthesizers, which rely solely on electronic circuitry, this instrument produces sound using a series of resonating metal tines, a bit like an electric piano. Under each of these resonators, there’s a driver, and when a player presses one of the keys, a driver sends a pulse to the corresponding resonator causing it to vibrate. The instrument has both a hammer mode and a pads mode – both of which I sampled.
The sample library is free to download for the Decent Sampler plugin, which is also free.
Patreon members of Decent Samples can also get a free library with the sounds of a guitar built from an old puzzle box.
The guitar has a unique sound, and I wrote a new rock song with it. I made a video about the whole process, and I also sampled the instrument. The sample library is available to Patrons here. By the way, the Patreon is just $5 per month, and you get access to all of the Patreon sample libraries I’ve made so far (more than 20 sample libraries).
