JHudStudio has announced that its Vocal King Pro dual compressor effect plugin is now available as a free download.
The pres compressor knob is the main work horse of the Vocal King. Turning the pres knob up turns up the gain and brings out the presence in the vocal along with giving it a smooth compression.
Low cut, tighten, and bass works with the pres compressor to help take out the mud without making the vocal sound too thin. The crispy knob give highs some sparkle that many will find satisfying. Final compressor gives that extra compression to the vocal to make it sound thick.
DB output turns the volume down. Use the power switch to quickly hear the difference between dry and processed. A, B, C, D, modes, I will let you find out what that means. The meters show gain reduction after signal is past 0db.
Previously sold for $29 USD, the plugin is now free to download for Windows and Mac in VST/VTS3 and AU formats.
The VK-2knob plugin, a simplified version of Vocal King, is also free.

Usually I would say it’s about skill and your ability to Listen carefully to make a good Mix. You can produce good mixes with stock plugins.

Unisum has been a game changer for mastering ITB. Many times my clients send me mixes that have a tiny bit of purposeful distortion on them and using a compressor that adds character brings that distortion too far forward. Unisum helps me get the gains I need in the most transparent and uncolored way possible and lets me get competitively loud masters much faster and easier. Conversely, some mixes I get are a little dull and need some mojo added and I am sure Kelvin would be a fantastic tool to use for this.
