Modularsamples has announced the release of a major update to its 4-voice granular synthesizer inspired by modular synthesis and certain, “lazy” DAW compositon workflows.
Version 2.0.0b of Oi, Grandad! comes with many new features, improvements and fixes.
Some time ago I started work on a sequel to Oi, Grandad! It was built more or less from scratch, had lots of fancy new features and used up about 50% of your CPU simply by being turned on. This has been scrapped in favour of a more evolutionary approach. So here’s Oi, Grandad! v2 as it was always supposed to be.
Changes in Oi, Grandad! v2.0.0b
- Each voice now has (up to) four position sliders.
- Modulators now have four selectable stages.
- Per voice waveguide resonator.
- Various pitch quantisation options.
- Dedicated Master control page allowing for quick modification of each voice.
- Sync modulators to DAW transport.
- ‘Led’ indicators for round robin mode.
- Comprehensive, post synth routing options.
- Fancy new UI.
- Disappearing modulation knobs fixed.
- Smoother Xfade transitions.
- Drone knob now resets when changing preset.
- Max grain size is now calculated on loading a sample.
- Samples and presets are now stored outside the users home directory (Mac & windows).
- Approx. 80% compatible with v1 presets.
The free, open source synth is available in VST3 and AU formats for Windows, Mac and Linux.
