A few weeks ago I posted a little note asking for people to get in touch if they’d like to do some reviews for Rekkerd. I was happy to get a good amount of responses, and so here is the first review from a contributor.

Aphelion’s Orbit takes a look at Excite Audio’s most recent Bloom series virtual instrument: Bloom Vocal Editor.

What is it?

Self-contained vocal chop and phrase tool that can be used as a stand-alone application or in your DAW.

Who is it for?

Beginners and professionals will both find a use for this tool.

  • Phrases and one-shots can be quickly added to a project as-is or morphed into something that works just for you.
  • Use Bloom Vocal Editor to inspire other parts of your production project by simply playing around with it and getting ideas.

Pros:

  • Onboard FX
  • Sample edit
  • Scalable UI
  • Preset edit saves

Cons:

  • Limited library
  • No sample importing

Final Thoughts

Blooms Vocal Editor instantly reminded me of some other tools on the market like Output Arcade, or Play Series from Native Instruments. It manages to capture a niche market for vocal phrases, and one-shots that fit well into genres like Drum and Bass, House, Glitch, Pop, R&B, Trap.

The inability to import one’s own samples does limit the longevity of the Bloom Vocal Editor. However, maybe Bloom will continue to update and offer expansion packs.

Thanks for your concise review, Aphelion’s Orbit!
