Slate Digital has introduced a meticulously-crafted reimagining of the iconic analog tape echo that defined the sound of dub, reggae, and alt-rock records of the 1970s and beyond. Stellar Echo SD-201 captures the magic of the original while adding significant enhancements tailored to modern music production.
The plugin faithfully recreates the unique character and nuance of vintage tape delay by introducing the same subtle pitch and timing variations and harmonic saturation found in tape regeneration. Echoes evolve in a very distinctive way and blend naturally into a mix.
In addition to authentically emulating the sound and functionality of the original hardware, Stellar Echo adds some additional features to the mix that enable producers to create effects impossible to achieve with the original:
- Full stereo operation with ping-pong delay and adjustable Echo Width for more immersive effects.
- Custom plate, chamber, and hall reverbs (in addition to the standard spring reverb) with adjustable decay time for creating unique ambient spaces.
- Wow & Flutter slider, Dry Thru Slider, and Clean/Noise switches for enhanced tape emulation.
- A ‘Custom’ mode that introduces a fourth playhead and gives users full control over output volume, stereo balance, and head position for greater tonal sculpting.
“Stellar Echo is the perfect fusion of vintage tape echo vibe with the creative capabilities you can only find in newer plugins,” commented Slate Digital CEO John Bastianelli. “We took everything we loved about the original, then added exciting new features to make it even more useful and inspiring. We think you’ll be hearing it on a lot of tracks.”
Stellar Echo is available free to All Access Pass and Complete Access Bundle subscribers. It is also available for purchase as a perpetual license for $199 USD.
