Sonora Cinematic has announced the release of an update to the Poiesis Cello virtual instrument library, now powered by the developer’s custom-built Aria engine.
Version 2 brings a wealth of new creative controls, features, and presets to enhance the expressiveness and versatility of this instrument.
Originally launched in 2021 as Sonora Cinematic’s debut product, Poiesis Cello quickly garnered a dedicated following among musicians and sound designers alike. With beautifully unconventional sounds derived from performances by distinguished cellist Alan Black, the instrument brims with rich timbral shifts and delicate shadings, octave harmonics, bow bounces and reiterations allowing users to create unique dynamic textures ranging from the most tender and reflective to nervily unsettling.
The release of version 2 sees the Kontakt Player instrument adopt Sonora Cinematic’s Aria engine which made its debut earlier this year in Aria Vocalscapes followed by the hugely popular Panorama Guitars.
Featuring the original sample content, the shift to the Aria engine brings new creative possibilities to this expressive instrument. Fresh features include the ability to crossfade or stack articulations, add effects from the extensive effects library, apply filters to each layer, and create evolving soundscapes using the intuitive XY pad.
Poiesis Cello 2 is also now organized as two different instruments:
- Poiesis Cello is the instrument hosted in the Aria Engine which focuses on creating beautiful ever-evolving textural soundscapes by blending two articulations together in a 2-layer engine with a record-ready mix.
- Poiesis Cello Articulation Keyswitch is a brand-new customizable key-switching system that allows players to organize single articulations traditionally (via key switching) or have velocity dictate the articulation being triggered.
Poiesis Cello 2 also includes almost 100 new presets providing users with a great starting point for shaping their own sound.
Of the release, Sonora Cinematic founder, Alessandro Mastroianni says:
“With the new implementation of the Aria Engine we have expanded the beautiful sonic palette of Poiesis Cello. It is now more versatile and unique, allowing users to craft sounds ranging from natural and acoustic to heavily processed, whilst always maintaining an organic quality. This instrument really can add depth and a cinematic quality to any production.”
Poiesis Cello 2 for Kontakt and the free Kontakt Player v7.7 or higher is is available at Sonora Cinematic and from Plugin Boutique with an introductory price of £59 GBP ex VAT (normally £82.50) until December 5th, 2024.
Existing Poiesis Cello users can enjoy all the new features with a free upgrade.
