Spitfire Audio has released Arctic Swells, bringing the student violin and a handmade Native American flute from Jon Meyer’s Flute+Violin Kontakt sample library to the free LABS series of virtual instruments.
By blending together the rises and falls of two instruments — a violin, and a handmade Native American flute — musician and sound maker Jon Meyer has created this unique hybrid instrument.
Recorded using Neumann KM84s and Coles 4038s, for a close sound, the result is icy, undulating swells and decays, with pitched-down samples creating low, sustained drones.
The instrument is a free download for the Spitfire Audio App, which is also free.
Make sure to check out the complete series of LABS instruments, and visit Jon Meyer’s website to get some more free Kontakt instruments.
