Plughugger has announced the release a new title in the series of sound libraries in which a synthesizer is sampled and have its characteristics recreated in the Omnisphere virtual instrument from Spectrasonics.
The Dark Materials is a collection of ambient analog sounds, based on the Motor Synth by Latvian synthmaker Gamechanger Audio. The Motor Synth is a polyphonic synthesizer using the sound of spinning hardware motors as oscillators, creating a very sharp and characteristic tone.
With The Dark Materials, Plughugger has sampled a large selection of its oscillators: from raw waveforms and intervals, to complex modulated sounds including FM and Ring Modulated sounds. The philosophy of the sound design was to take the sharpness of the Motor Synth and turn it into something soft and mellow, yet keeping and enhancing the instability of pitch from the motors.
As a bonus, Plughugger also added a handful of analog drum sounds with an early ’80s vibe. Apart from single presets, Plughugger combined another 40 sounds into complex layered multisounds.
The Dark Materials contains 237 sounds in the following categories:
- 25 Arpeggios / Sequences.
- 12 Drums and Percussion.
- 9 Effect and Hit sounds.
- 66 Pads / Synth strings.
- 25 Synth sounds.
- 60 Textures and Soundscapes.
- 40 Multi sounds.
The sound pack is on sale at Plughugger for the intro price of 9.90 EUR until April 4th, 2021 (regular 29.90 EUR). Use coupon code DARKMOTORS at the checkout to get the discount.
