XILS-lab has released a new virtual instrument that aims to recreate the sound and character of the CS-80 analog synthesizer by Yamaha.
The Eighty is designed to bring the unique tonal qualities and performance features of the iconic synth, delivering unmatched warmth and expressiveness.
It features three synthesis lines: two that faithfully recreate the linked high-pass and low-pass filters that defined the CS-80’s iconic sound, and a third line, seamlessly blendable through an innovative 2D mixer for expanded sonic possibilities.
With its rich analog character, extensive modulation capabilities, and intuitive interface, The Eighty offers sound designers, producers, and musicians the tools to craft everything from lush pads and soaring leads to deep, textured soundscapes. A modern tribute to a timeless classic.
The Eighty features
- 2 main synthesis signal paths inspired by the CS-80, along with a third synthesis signal path that can be blended through a 2D mixer for expanded sonic possibilities.
- Meticulously modeled zero-delay 12 dB resonant high-pass and low-pass filters to maintain an analog-like sound without digital artifacts. Oscillators are also modeled to include unique CS-80 characteristics such as saw wave creation with short pulses, ensuring distinctive tone and texture.
- Polyphonic aftertouch, keyboard followers, and velocity sensitivity allows players to shape sounds with nuanced expression.
- Sub oscillator and ring modulator sections provide enhanced live playability.
- Arpeggiator with cyclical modulation and muting to breathe life into arpeggiated sequences.
- 4 integrated effects (delay, phaser, reverb and EQ) with independent routing options.
- 500+ presets from renowned sound designers, including the original 12 presets that helped shape iconic tracks by artists like Stevie Wonder and Vangelis.
Regularly priced $179 USD, The Eighty for Windows and Mac (VST/VST3, AU and AAX) is on sale at Audio Plugin Deals for $79 USD until January 27th, 2025 (regular $179 USD).
